What to Expect

During your time with us we will work with you to capture the best images possible of Atlantic Puffins. A photography guide will help you with camera settings and explain puffin behaviour so you can capture images of those colourful birds.

There are two options for capturing images of puffins in Newfoundland and we can customize it to your needs.

Option 1: This option requires a 45-minute drive to Witless Bay with us where we would then take a boat ride to a bird sanctuary to photograph puffins and other seabirds. This option is good if you are planning to stay in the St. John’s area and have limited time.  The images would be taken from the boat so we would photograph flying puffins and some that are on the island or ocean.

Option 2: This option would require an overnight stay at Bonavista where we would have a lot more time with the puffins. Basically, there are two locations there that we can sit and watch or photograph puffins for two days.  Puffins are known to come very close to people with in 4 to 5 feet and in these areas and you will be able to get that full frame puffin portrait without any cropping.

Therefore, it depends on what type of puffin images you are looking for as option 2 will provide a lot better opportunities.  Option 2 also provides a lot of other photo opportunities as well which may include icebergs, whales, foxes, beautiful rugged coastline and a fishing village.

If you are not a photographer and just want to see the puffins that is ok too as we love showing off these cute little birds.

Two options are available for the Atlantic Puffin Tour. By Boat or Land.

Witless Bay (Option 1)

Here we would take a boat ride out to and island that has thousands of seabirds including the Atlantic Puffin. It is about a 40 min drive from St. John's

Bonavista (Option 2)

We will travel to the Bonavista Penisula and spend the night. Here we will be able to walk to them by land and spend as much time as you would like with them.
