While the Steller’s Sea Eagle is the main highlight of this experience, this tour offers much more than simply searching for one bird. It has been carefully designed to provide guests with a full day of discovering the incredible wildlife, coastal scenery, and culture that make Newfoundland one of Canada’s premier nature destinations.
Our number one priority is locating and observing the legendary Steller’s Sea Eagle. To date, we have enjoyed excellent success finding this remarkable visitor, and we closely monitor its daily movements and recent sightings to maximize your chances of experiencing this extraordinary bird. Although sightings can never be guaranteed—as this is a completely wild bird—we only operate the tour when we believe conditions provide an excellent opportunity for success.
Throughout the day, we’ll travel through some of the most scenic regions of Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula, visiting picturesque fishing villages, dramatic coastlines, rugged cliffs, historic communities, sheltered harbours, and spectacular ocean viewpoints. Depending on recent eagle sightings, weather conditions, and wildlife activity, our route may include communities such as Conception Harbour, Green Bay, Dildo, and other hidden gems that many visitors never get the opportunity to experience.
This flexibility is one of the greatest advantages of a private tour. Rather than following a fixed itinerary, we can adapt throughout the day based on the eagle’s latest location, current weather, lighting conditions, and wildlife activity. This allows us to provide the best possible opportunity to locate the Steller’s Sea Eagle while also ensuring you experience many of Newfoundland’s most beautiful coastal landscapes.
Along the journey, we’ll be watching for much more than just the Steller’s Sea Eagle. Bald Eagles are frequently seen throughout the area, and depending on the season, there may also be opportunities to observe Atlantic Puffins, Black Guillemots, Common Murres, Great Cormorants, gulls, shorebirds, and a variety of other seabirds. Foxes, moose, whales (seasonal), and other wildlife are also possible encounters depending on the time of year.
Our boat excursion is a highlight of the day, allowing us to explore Newfoundland’s spectacular coastline from the water while searching for the Steller’s Sea Eagle in its preferred habitat. From the boat, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of rugged cliffs, secluded coves, offshore islands, and pristine coastal scenery while also having opportunities to photograph Bald Eagles, seabirds, and Newfoundland’s dramatic shoreline.

Join us for a private guided adventure to search for and experience the legendary Stellar’s Sea Eagle — an incredibly rare visitor to Newfoundland and Labrador. Normally found in regions of Russia and Japan, the Stellar’s Sea Eagle is considered one of the rarest birds ever seen in North America. One of these remarkable birds has recently been spending time in Newfoundland alongside local bald eagles, creating an unforgettable opportunity for birders, wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, and nature lovers alike.
This private day tour begins with pickup from your accommodations in St. John’s. From there, we travel by vehicle to the departure point for our boat excursion. During the drive to the coast, guests will also have opportunities to experience and photograph additional bird species and Newfoundland wildlife along the way depending on conditions and sightings during the journey.
Once onboard, we will spend approximately two hours on the water searching for and observing the Stellar’s Sea Eagle while also enjoying opportunities to see bald eagles, seabirds, rugged coastal scenery, dramatic cliffs, and Newfoundland’s beautiful ocean landscapes.
For photographers, Newfoundland Photo Tours will provide photography guidance and assistance throughout the experience. However, this tour is not limited to photographers alone — it is equally designed for guests who simply want the opportunity to witness and experience this incredibly rare bird in person.
The boat excursion is fully included in the tour price, along with transportation from St. John’s and professional guiding throughout the day.
While we have excellent knowledge of the bird’s recent location and daily routine, and it has been consistently sighted throughout the summer, this remains a true wild bird experience. Because of that, sightings can never be guaranteed. However, we carefully monitor the bird’s activity and weather conditions daily and will only operate the experience when we believe there is a strong opportunity to see and experience the bird.

Weather & Wildlife Conditions:This experience is highly dependent on both weather and wildlife activity.
• If weather conditions are unsafe or unsuitable for the boat excursion, we may postpone the tour to another available day providing weather conditions improve and availability exists• If weather conditions do not improve or rescheduling is not possible, a full refund will be provided• If the Stellar’s Sea Eagle leaves the area prior to the scheduled tour date, a full refund will also be provided• If the tour proceeds as planned and the boat excursion operates, no refunds will be issued if the Stellar’s Sea Eagle is not observed, as this is a wild bird experience and sightings cannot be guaranteed
While sightings can never be guaranteed, we closely monitor the bird’s daily activity and routine and will only operate the experience when we believe there is a strong opportunity to see and experience the bird.
