Discover Newfoundland’s Atlantic Puffins – A Photographer’s Dream!
Explore the breathtaking beauty of Newfoundland’s Atlantic Puffins with our specialized photography tours. Whether you’re a casual wildlife enthusiast or a professional photographer, our tours are tailored to give you the best possible experience in capturing these colorful seabirds in their natural habitat.
Option 1: Puffin Boat Tour (Witless Bay)
-
This full-day tour offers a well-rounded introduction to Newfoundland’s wildlife, landscapes, and vibrant capital city — perfect for visitors who want to experience a little bit of everything in one unforgettable day.
We begin with a scenic drive to Bay Bulls, home to one of the largest seabird colonies in North America. Here, you’ll board a larger, professionally operated boat with one of our trusted third-party operators. This is a comfortable, stable vessel designed for coastal touring and wildlife viewing.
From the water, you’ll witness millions of seabirds nesting along the cliffs and islands, including Atlantic puffins, common murres, kittiwakes, and other seabird species. While this is a larger tour boat — often with music and a lively atmosphere — we ensure you are positioned in the best possible area on board for photography and viewing.
It’s important to note that this experience is different from our custom, small-group puffin photography tours. On this tour, we view puffins and seabirds from the boat as we pass their nesting islands, offering excellent opportunities to see and photograph them in their natural habitat. However, we do not land or spend extended time photographing puffins up close, as we do on our multi-day or private photography-focused tours.
Following the boat excursion, we return to the St. John’s area to explore a mix of iconic landmarks and lesser-known local spots. Depending on timing and conditions, highlights may include:
-
Signal Hill, Cape Spear, Quidi Vidi, Jellybean houses, and more
-
Local stops for culture, history, and atmosphere
This tour is ideal for guests who want to see puffins and seabirds, experience Newfoundland’s rugged coastline, and explore the character and charm of St. John’s — all in one day. It provides a fantastic overview of the region while leaving the more in-depth wildlife photography experiences for our longer, dedicated tours.
