Join Newfoundland photographer Gord Follett on this immersive photography adventure designed to capture the very best of autumn. From rugged coastlines and iconic lighthouses to hidden waterfalls\, mountain vistas\, and vibrant forests\, this small-group experience offers exceptional photographic opportunities and personalized instruction throughout the journey. \n \nPlease note: While the itinerary below provides a general outline of our week together\, photography is often dictated by weather\, light\, wildlife activity\, and seasonal conditions. Our goal is always to put you in the best possible locations to capture the strongest images available. As a result\, the itinerary may be adjusted throughout the tour to take advantage of exceptional conditions\, peak fall colours\, dramatic skies\, wildlife opportunities\, or other unique photographic moments. This flexibility is one of the greatest advantages of travelling in a small group and helps ensure you return home with the best images possible from Newfoundland’s spectacular West Coast. \nOctober 2 – Arrival in Deer Lake\nArrive in Deer Lake and meet Gord and your fellow photographers for supper. We’ll spend the evening getting acquainted\, reviewing the itinerary for the week\, discussing camera gear and techniques\, and preparing for the adventure ahead. \nOvernight: Deer Lake\n \nOctober 3 – Port au Choix\nWe begin our journey north toward Port au Choix\, stopping frequently for photography opportunities along the way. Depending on conditions\, locations may include Arches Provincial Park\, Daniel’s Harbour\, Parson’s Pond\, coastal barrens\, sandy beaches\, fishing communities\, and scenic viewpoints. There may also be opportunities to photograph caribou in this region. \nWe’ll arrive in Port au Choix in time to photograph the rugged coastline\, lighthouse\, fishing stages\, and sunset along the shore. Additional opportunities may include long exposures of the coastline\, intimate shoreline details\, and dramatic evening skies over the Gulf of St. Lawrence. \nOvernight: Port au Choix\n \nOctober 4 – Rocky Harbour\nAfter a sunrise session\, we’ll make our way south toward Rocky Harbour. Along the route we’ll stop whenever the scenery and light inspire us\, with possible visits to Hawke’s Bay\, Cow Head\, Shallow Bay\, Woody Point\, Norris Point\, Bonne Bay\, and various Gros Morne viewpoints. \nLater in the day we’ll photograph Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse\, Rocky Harbour waterfront\, fishing boats\, wharves\, and the dramatic coastline at sunset. We’ll also explore opportunities for creative compositions\, reflections\, and long exposures as the evening light fades. \nOvernight: Rocky Harbour\n \nOctober 5 – Steady Brook\nToday we continue exploring the Gros Morne region before heading toward Steady Brook. Potential photography locations include Western Brook Pond\, Green Point\, The Tablelands\, Berry Hill\, Norris Point\, Bonne Bay\, tuckamore forests\, coastal barrens\, and scenic forest roads dressed in autumn colour. \nAs we travel south\, we’ll continue searching for waterfalls\, rivers\, wildlife\, and vibrant fall landscapes. We’ll settle into our accommodations and capture a relaxed golden-hour session nearby. \n \nDay 2 – October 7th: Gros Morne National Park – South & North Sides\nWe spend the full day in Gros Morne National Park\, beginning with the south side in the morning—where we’ll photograph fjords\, trails\, and dramatic coastal cliffs bursting with fall foliage.After lunch\, we continue to the north side\, featuring wide valleys\, colourful woodlands\, and panoramic viewpoints perfect for autumn landscape photography. \n \nDay 3 – October 8th: Bald Eagles by Boat & Sunset at Bottle Cove\nIn the morning\, we’ll take a boat tour along the coast to photograph bald eagles\, seabirds\, and striking shoreline features from the water.After a break\, we head to Bottle Cove for an evening session\, capturing layered cliffs\, colourful skies\, and dramatic light as the sun sets over the ocean. \n \nDay 4 – October 9th: Western Brook Pond & Northern Wildlife\nWe venture further up the coast\, stopping at Western Brook Pond and other wild areas to photograph caribou\, moose\, and foxes in their natural habitat. The forests here are particularly brilliant with autumn colour.We’ll also visit coastal fishing villages and seascapes\, offering rich cultural and scenic photo opportunities. \n \nDay 5 – October 10th: Wildlife\, Lighthouses & Final West Coast Shoot\nOur last full day on the west coast is flexible—focused on wildlife\, colourful landscapes\, and lighthouses along the coast. You’ll stay overnight in Bonavista. \n \nJune 3rd: Bonavista – Icebergs & Zodiac Trip \nOn your third day\, you’ll start with a morning photography session focused on capturing the stunning coastal scenery and any puffins you might encounter. After lunch\, you’ll embark on a thrilling zodiac trip to find icebergs\, whales\, puffins\, etc… This adventure will bring you up close to these magnificent ice formations\, providing incredible opportunities to photograph their striking blue hues and unique shapes. The zodiac trip also offers a chance to capture coastal birds in their natural habitat. After a day filled with photography\, you’ll enjoy a relaxing sunset session by the coast before staying overnight in Bonavista. \n \nJune 4th: Morning in Bonavista & Travel to Twillingate \nOn your fourth day\, you’ll spend the morning in Bonavista\, capturing more scenic shots and enjoying any last-minute puffin photography opportunities. After lunch\, you’ll travel to Twillingate\, a renowned location for iceberg photography. Twillingate is also home to various coastal birds\, giving you further opportunities to photograph them alongside the icebergs. You’ll spend the night in Twillingate. \n \nJune 5th: Icebergs & Whales \nThe focus of the day will be on icebergs and possibly spotting whales.
