Join Newfoundland photographer Gord Follett on this immersive photography adventure designed to capture the very best of autumn. From rugged coastlines and iconic lighthouses to hidden waterfalls, mountain vistas, and vibrant forests, this small-group experience offers exceptional photographic opportunities and personalized instruction throughout the journey.
Please note: While the itinerary below provides a general outline of our week together, photography is often dictated by weather, light, wildlife activity, and seasonal conditions. Our goal is always to put you in the best possible locations to capture the strongest images available. As a result, the itinerary may be adjusted throughout the tour to take advantage of exceptional conditions, peak fall colours, dramatic skies, wildlife opportunities, or other unique photographic moments. This flexibility is one of the greatest advantages of travelling in a small group and helps ensure you return home with the best images possible from Newfoundland’s spectacular West Coast.
October 2 – Arrival in Deer Lake
Arrive in Deer Lake and meet Gord and your fellow photographers for supper. We’ll spend the evening getting acquainted, reviewing the itinerary for the week, discussing camera gear and techniques, and preparing for the adventure ahead.

October 3 – Port au Choix
We begin our journey north toward Port au Choix, stopping frequently for photography opportunities along the way. Depending on conditions, locations may include Arches Provincial Park, Daniel’s Harbour, Parson’s Pond, coastal barrens, sandy beaches, fishing communities, and scenic viewpoints. There may also be opportunities to photograph caribou in this region.
We’ll arrive in Port au Choix in time to photograph the rugged coastline, lighthouse, fishing stages, and sunset along the shore. Additional opportunities may include long exposures of the coastline, intimate shoreline details, and dramatic evening skies over the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

October 4 – Rocky Harbour
After a sunrise session, we’ll make our way south toward Rocky Harbour. Along the route we’ll stop whenever the scenery and light inspire us, with possible visits to Hawke’s Bay, Cow Head, Shallow Bay, Woody Point, Norris Point, Bonne Bay, and various Gros Morne viewpoints.
Later in the day we’ll photograph Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse, Rocky Harbour waterfront, fishing boats, wharves, and the dramatic coastline at sunset. We’ll also explore opportunities for creative compositions, reflections, and long exposures as the evening light fades.

October 5 – Steady Brook
Today we continue exploring the Gros Morne region before heading toward Steady Brook. Potential photography locations include Western Brook Pond, Green Point, The Tablelands, Berry Hill, Norris Point, Bonne Bay, tuckamore forests, coastal barrens, and scenic forest roads dressed in autumn colour.
As we travel south, we’ll continue searching for waterfalls, rivers, wildlife, and vibrant fall landscapes. This is an excellent opportunity to slow down and capture intimate woodland scenes, details of autumn foliage, and the textures that define Newfoundland in the fall.
Overnight: Steady Brook
October 6 – Bay of Islands and Humber Valley
One of the highlights of the tour, this day focuses on some of the West Coast’s most spectacular scenery during peak fall colour season.

October 7 – Final Photography Day
Possible subjects include waterfalls, rivers, misty morning scenes, wildlife opportunities, forest roads lined with autumn colour, abstract details of leaves and textures, Bottle Cove, Corner Brook overlooks, Pasadena lakeshores, Humber River, and Deer Lake viewpoints.
At the conclusion of the day’s photography, guests may be dropped off at the Deer Lake Airport, local accommodations in Deer Lake, or, if they wish, return to St. John’s with us.
October 8 – Departure
Guests may fly home from Deer Lake, continue exploring Newfoundland independently, or return to St. John’s with us if arrangements have been made.
