Day 1: Tuesday, July 8th – Arrival and Welcome Dinner
Welcome to St. John’s, Newfoundland! Arrive by 6:00 PM to kick off your adventure with a delightful welcome dinner at the Jag Hotel. As you settle into your cozy room, mingle with fellow photographers and get acquainted with your expert guide. Over a scrumptious meal, we’ll preview the exciting itinerary, share insider tips, and gear up for a week filled with awe-inspiring sights and incredible photo opportunities.
Day 2: Wednesday, July 9th – Sunrise at Cape Spear, Midday Chill, and Sunset in St. John’s
Start your day bright and early with a trip to Cape Spear, the easternmost point in North America. As the sun peeks over the horizon, capture the ethereal beauty of the Atlantic Ocean and the historic Cape Spear Lighthouse. Listen for the distant blow of humpback whales as you photograph the rugged cliffs bathed in the first light of day.
After this invigorating morning, we’ll return to St. John’s for a leisurely midday break. Relax, grab a bite at a local café, or explore the city’s eclectic shops and vibrant street art. Recharge your batteries (both camera and personal) for the exciting evening ahead.
As the sun begins to set, we’ll head back out to photograph the golden hour in St. John’s. Capture the city’s coastal charm as it transforms under the evening sky, and snap some memorable shots of the colorful harbor and historic architecture.
Day 3: Thursday, July 10th – Cliffside Birds at Cape St. Mary’s, Coastal Beauty in Branch, and Golden Hour Gannets
Get ready for an exhilarating day as we drive to Cape St. Mary’s, one of North America’s most stunning wildlife photography locations. Stand on the edge of the dramatic cliffs and photograph thousands of northern gannets and other seabirds in their natural habitat. The sheer number of birds and the rugged landscape create a breathtaking scene.
We’ll then journey to the charming village of Branch, known for its picturesque coastal views. This quaint spot offers fantastic opportunities for capturing the essence of Newfoundland’s traditional coastal life.
As evening approaches, we’ll head back to Cape St. Mary’s to photograph the gannets during the golden hour. The soft, warm light will enhance your shots of these majestic birds, making for some truly spectacular images.
Day 4: Friday, July 11th – Scenic Drive to Bonavista and Photo Expedition
Today, we’ll embark on a scenic drive to Bonavista. Check into your charming accommodation, and then dive straight into the day’s photo adventure. Bonavista’s rugged coastline, historic landmarks, and colorful architecture provide endless photographic inspiration.
Capture stunning images of Cape Bonavista Lighthouse and the dramatic coastal landscapes that define this picturesque town. With your guide’s expert insights, you’ll make the most of the day’s light and scenery
Day 5: Saturday, July 12th – Exploring Bonavista and Beyond
Prepare for an exhilarating day exploring the picturesque Bonavista area and its stunning surroundings.
We’ll start by immersing ourselves in the vibrant world of Elliston, renowned for its lively Atlantic puffin colony. As you navigate the cliffs, you’ll have the chance to get up close and personal with these charming seabirds. With guidance from your expert photographer, you’ll capture captivating portraits of puffins against the dramatic backdrop of the rugged coastline. The colony’s energetic atmosphere and the puffins’ colorful beaks will make for some unforgettable images.
In addition to the puffin adventure, you’ll have the opportunity to explore several other scenic gems in the region. Marvel at the dramatic sea stacks and arches of The Dungeons, where the relentless sea has sculpted striking rock formations. The contrast between the dark, weathered rocks and the bright, crashing waves offers fantastic photographic opportunities.
We’ll also visit Cable John Cove, where serene coastal views provide a tranquil counterpoint to the day’s more dramatic landscapes. These picturesque spots are perfect for capturing Newfoundland’s diverse and captivating scenery.
Adding a touch of excitement to the day, you’ll embark on a thrilling zodiac boat trip. This adventure allows you to experience the rugged Newfoundland coastline from a unique vantage point. As we navigate the waters, keep an eye out for majestic whales. With a bit of luck, you might capture spectacular shots of these gentle giants breaching the surface. The zodiac trip also offers the chance to photograph seabirds soaring above and the ever-changing seascape.
Day 6: Sunday, July 13th – Return to St. John’s with a Stop in Trinity
After a final breakfast in Bonavista, check out and begin the journey back to St. John’s. Along the way, make a stop in Trinity to photograph its historic and picturesque features. This charming village offers a perfect final opportunity to capture the essence of Newfoundland’s heritage and beauty.
Arrive back in St. John’s and enjoy some free time for last-minute exploration or shopping.
Day 7: Monday, July 14th – Departure
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and prepare for your departure. With a camera full of stunning images and a heart full of adventure, you’ll leave with cherished memories of Newfoundland’s breathtaking landscapes and wildlife.
